HEITEC PTS starts cooperation with Waygate Technologies

Waygate Technologies, a Baker Hughes business, and HEITEC PTS GmbH combine their know-how to offer automated and customized industrial X-ray and CT inspection solutions together. Through this cooperation, customers and users will benefit from a first-class portfolio of CT inspection systems ranging from laboratory environments to highly automated and digitally networked production environments with smallest cycle times.

Wheel manufacturer BORBET relies on HEITEC PTS

Kuchen, November 2020 – BORBET wheels stand for top technology and uncompromising quality – guaranteed by X-ray technology from HEITEC PTS.

In August of this year, four of the fully automatic wheel test systems HeiDetect Wheel Robot from HEITEC PTS put into operation at the BORBET Group's plant in Thuringia. Due to the integrated industrial robot, the systems achieve a very high output rate and are ideally suited for inline operation in the mass production of cast aluminum wheels. This also gave BORBET the opportunity to reduce the previous machine park by 2 systems with the same output and thus save valuable production space.

The powerful image evaluation software of the systems and their detector with stable image quality enable an almost pseudo-error-free evaluation, which results in possible casting defects can be reliably detected and classified.

Start of production from zero to a hundred

The four wheel test machines were to be 100% ready for production after the production break in Thuringia. A normally usual start-up time was not planned - from zero to a hundred was the motto! To achieve this ambitious goal, the systems had to be set up in advance at HEITEC PTS in Kuchen. They were set up, tested and could thus be put into operation under realistic conditions. Since all wheel data had already been created by BORBET employees at the manufacturing plant, it was also possible to train the employees directly on the new wheel testing systems.

Series production in two weeks

After extensive testing in Kuchen, HEITEC PTS integrated the four HeiDetect Wheel Robot machines within only two weeks into the wheel production in Thuringia. During the first week they were assembled, prepared for automatic operation and integrated into customer's IT. In the second week, additional training courses were held at the now production-ready machines. After final acceptance and production start at the end of August specialists from HEITEC PTS accompanied the production for another two weeks and supported the employees of BORBET with tips and advice. The promised technical availability was thus reliably guaranteed from day 1 of production.

Thanks to the perfect preparation and the commitment of all involved, the integration was a complete success: "From zero to a hundred in just two weeks", as Jürgen Löffler, Technical Operations Manager of the foundry, put it in a nutshell.

100% traceability through DMC marking

In addition, the entire production at BORBET in Thuringia is currently being converted to 100% traceability of wheel data across the entire value-added chain using DMC labeling. HEITEC PTS has the right solution in its portfolio for this as well: With the brand new HeiLaser Wheel, it is possible to mark the wheels directly after the X-ray inspection in parallel to the cycle time and individually according to customer requirements using a 50Watt laser system.

New wheel types can be created within a few minutes in the HeiControl software – the laser programs are then automatically distributed to all systems via a database, analogous to the X-ray inspection programs.

Besides the great advantage of purchasing the X-ray testing and marking process from a hand, the coherent machine concept, the comfortable operation and the perfectly coordinated interaction of X-ray testing and laser machine are the main arguments that convinced BORBET to equip all 6 HeiDetect Wheel Robot machines in Thuringia with the HeiLaser Wheel in the course of a group-wide lighthouse project.

With HEITEC PTS as a partner, BORBET has taken another big step towards serialization and digitalization of production.

HEITEC establishes subsidiary in China

Takeover of the electronic packaging business of Rittal China

The aim is to expand the existing business and intensively develop the Chinese and all-Asian market

With effect from the first of April 2020, a new subsidiary of HEITEC AG will be launched in Shanghai, China. With the opening of its own subsidiary, HEITEC intends to take advantage of direct market access and further expand its presence in China and in Asia as a whole. With its huge domestic market and rapid technological development, China is one of the most important foreign markets for the company.

Until now, the subsidiary REMT of the partner Rittal has served the Chinese market with electronics enclosure technology products. However, HEITEC and Rittal have now agreed to transfer the electronics mounting systems portfolio completely to HEITEC. HEITEC had already taken over the Rittal portfolio of electronics mounting systems in Europe in 2013 and successfully developed it further. With the transfer in China, the acquisition of the electronic packaging business on an exclusive and global basis is now fully completed.

However, the company will not stop at the mere sale of enclosure technology: The aim is to offer comprehensive services as well as system platforms and solutions: In addition to marketing and sales, technical support, product, project and supply chain management, development, production, assembly and system integration, warehousing and logistics as well as administrative functions will therefore move into 1,300m² of space. In the medium term, it is planned to establish the complete service portfolio of HEITEC AG, including automation, digitalization and production systems, in China. The newly created direct market access will also open up more opportunities for HEITEC for component sourcing to optimize the global value chain.

"By establishing our own subsidiary, we will significantly strengthen our local presence and continue to consistently develop the region, both in terms of sales and logistics," enthuses Roland Chochoiek, Executive Vice President Business Unit Electronics at HEITEC, who will also serve as Executive Director of the new subsidiary. "If you want to be a partner to your customers for system development, you have to offer customer proximity in every respect."

The HEITEC subsidiary with initially more than 20 employees will operate as HEITEC Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. The company is located in the Songjiang district on the conveniently located G60 corridor, which has been chosen by the Chinese government as a new technology center, roughly comparable to the Highway 101 corridor in California. The local management will be taken over as General Manager by Yunling Wu, who has many years of experience in the industrial electronics market.

Technology from HEITEC PTS GmbH aims to prevent manipulation in cycling

In the future, the International Cycling Union (UCI) wants to use X-ray trucks to hunt for suspected electric motors at the most important races. So far, special thermal cameras have been used in the search for the suspected miniature drives installed in the bike frames. In the future, X-ray equipment from HEITEC PTS GmbH will be used at the Giro d'Italia, the Tour de France, the Vuelta a Espana and the five most important one-day races.

This was published by the UCI at its press conference on 20.03.2018 to fight against "technological fraud".

In Kuchen opens the gate to the world

Kuchen, New York, Shanghai:
Erhardt + Abt Automatisierungstechnik cooperates with the American company VJ Technologies (VJT) to set new standards in the field of automated X-ray inspection. The aim of the partnership is to combine the product safety and quality of a high-end technology "Made in Germany" with regional equipment manufacturing in order to serve demanding production environments such as those in the automotive industry.

X-ray systems to be developed in future in global partnership

Last year, three technology leaders in automation and industrial X-ray technology joined forces to serve the international market even better. This has now also been published at www.ndt.org , the online portal for >NonDestructiveTesting<.

On to new markets

Erhardt+Abt has the know-how to achieve a very high throughput rate in inline operation of mass production with an integrated industrial robot. Thus, the HeiDetect Wheel Robot is one of, if not the fastest X-ray inspection system for cast aluminum wheels on the market.

With the HeiDetect Wheel Robot, Erhardt+Abt has meanwhile established itself on the European market. Erhardt+Abt is thus setting new benchmarks and standards for X-ray inspection, not only of cast aluminum wheels.

Through the cooperation with VJ Technologies, one of the world's leading providers of non-destructive workpiece testing with a network of subsidiaries worldwide, these standards now reach a market access for USA, Mexico, China and India.

This offers clear competitive advantages not only for Erhardt+Abt. Both sides see great potential in cost-effective equipment production coupled with the product safety and quality of a high-end technology "Made in Germany".

This cooperation was presented at WCNDT 2016, the World Conference on Nondestructive Testing. The conference took place from Monday June 13 to Friday June 17, 2016 in Munich.
